Field note 20 / The garage /

Bonita has nine outfits and a battery.

I wanted one convincing vehicle. She brought eight changes of clothes.

Actual Blender render of Bonita as a yellow and blue tuk-tuk, with green eyes, eyelashes and luggage
Bonita's tuk-tuk form in Blender. This is a saved model review render, not an Unreal gameplay screenshot or a finished transformation.

Bonita now has nine forms. She still has only one parking space.

I lined up her tuk-tuk, two mopeds, buggy, off-roader, pontoon boat, aeroplane, gyrocopter and paraglider in Blender. They share the face and attitude that make her Bonita. I've accepted the current models as the starting point for animation, although I'll keep adjusting them when movement shows me what I've missed.

Looking from the driver's seat found plenty. The handbrake went through the seat. The key had wandered off the dashboard. The speedometer was in the wrong place. Also, Bonita had no way to take fuel, which is a fairly ambitious design for a petrol-powered friend. The latest models address those, and hide her gadget switches behind an “Emergency Use Only” hatch.

That lower box I nearly dismissed is now a little battery compartment, with a removable battery and a disconnected lead. It may give Rusty his first proper job with her: find the battery or reconnect it and see who wakes up. The story choice isn't settled, and there is no working battery quest yet.

The first tuk-tuk-to-aeroplane transformation is the next test. The models and a bit of Unreal transition code exist, but I haven't got a playable transformation with these new forms. That is the moment I want to see, preferably with Bonita looking mildly offended by the effort.
